There are currently 17 playable Legends in Respawn Entertainment's Battle Royale, but the youngest of them all is a bit of a surprise.

Apex Legends is in the middle of its ninth season, and still drawing in hundreds of thousands of players every day. Respawn Entertainment's Battle Royale has grown a lot since its initial release in 2019. New maps, weaponry, and Legends have helped keep Apex Legends fresh past its two-year anniversary.

In addition to gameplay updates, Respawn Entertainment has also worked hard to expand the game's lore. Apex Legends is set in the Titanfall universe, and features a few crossovers with Respawn's previous series. The gladiators who gather for the Apex Games are a motley crew from all walks of life, but the youngest amongst them is rather surprising.

While most of the competitors in the Apex Games are in their late 20s or early 30s, there are a few that are younger. The youngest Legend of all is Ramya "Rampart" Parekh, who entered the games at a mere 21 years old. What's really surprising about this is that Rampart apparently led a pretty eventful life even before the Apex Games.

Rampart is a gunsmith by trade, and once owned a small but successful business. She built this business up from scratch, meaning she likely started it in her teens. However, even this wasn't where Rampart's career began. Before founding her own business, she built up a reputation in the Gauntlet, a clandestine blood-sport similar to the Apex Games.

According to Rampart's official lore she first made her name in these underground fight clubs, back when she used her modding skills only for herself. This means its quite likely that Rampart was facing full-grown adults in the arena by her early teens.

The Apex Legends website makes it clear that Rampart's custom weapons are highly prized, and her shop attracted a broad clientele of criminals and Syndicate members. However, it was an encounter with a disgruntled gangster that led to her becoming a Legend in the first place.

Rampart's Gauntlet career came to an end after she was threatened by Big Sister, a gang-leader from her native Gaea. Big Sister contacted Rampart through her lackey Frances, telling Rampart to throw her next match so that the gang could collect on their bets. Rampart refused, causing Big Sister to make good on her threat. Big Sister's gang burned down Rampart's shop and destroyed her merchandise, leaving her with nothing.

While standing in the rubble of her business, Rampart was approached by Kuben Blisk, commissioner of the Apex Games. Blisk offered Rampart an Apex Card, inviting her to join the Games as a new Legend. With nothing left of her business, and her ties to the Gauntlet matches severed, Rampart accepted. By joining the Games, Rampart replaced the 22-year-old Wattson as the youngest ever competitor. However, her modding skills and blood-sport experience mean that she's never been at a disadvantage. Rampart is the kind of person who can "turn crap into gold," a motto she lives up to in her new life as an Apex Games Legend.

Apex Legends is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
