Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is bringing another round of in-universe Dungeons and Dragons to the Borderlands series, which should satisfy fans.

Summer Games Fest kicked off today with the reveal of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. The Borderlands spin-off looks to be bringing back a fan-favorite element from the Dragon's Keep DLC from Borderlands 2. Poking fun while paying direct homage to Dungeons and Dragons all at once was something many Borderlands 2 players really enjoyed. Not much has been revealed as of yet, but fans are likely already excited about getting to play another session.

In Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, the Vault Hunters sit down to play a game of Bunkers and Badasses with Tiny Tina as their "Bunkermaster." The cheeky spoof of classic DnD was many fans' favorite among all the DLCs available for Borderlands 2, and many have been hoping to play another session of the game since. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands was one of the 2K games that were recently leaked but was officially revealed in a new trailer today at the Summer Game's Fest.

With Dungeons and Dragons more popular than ever, it's good timing for the now-officially announced Tiny Tina's WonderlandsBorderlands 3 has stayed fairly popular despite what are considered a few missteps by certain element, so announcing a new spin-off game makes sense there too. The Borderlands series' signature tongue-in-cheek humor translated well into lampooning classic DnD tropes, like the grenade mods acting as various spells like Fireball and Lightning Bolt. Hearing the characters yell out the spell names was an added treat, and the DLC was packed with little jokes about things like grinding XP by killing skeletons and other DnD tropes.

Not much has been revealed about the game just yet but the trailer itself was also full of DnD lip service. A dragon is seen circling around a mountaintop while an unknown character is seen hammering at a forge, with spellcasting being a new feature to the franchise. The dragon inevitably swoops down to attack, but the character is revealed to have been crafting a classically Borderlands-style gun as the magical unicorn Butt Stallion leaps out in their defense. There's been evidence about Wonderlands for a while now, so while it may not exactly be a surprise, it's an answer to a lot of fan hopes.

More will come later revealing what Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is exactly, but that doesn't make the game any less exciting. It'll be interesting to see if the game skews away from the first-person shooter format that its predecessors have utilized. It's possible that the game moves to a third-person perspective to facilitate more traditional RPG action and an emphasis on character customization in line with most DnD-based games, as it is also said to feature character customization. How many mechanics work will become a big focus for fans now that the game has actually been announced. Many of the hallmarks of Dungeons and Dragons game stands directly on the opposite side of gameplay style to Borderlands, but Dragon Keep showed that Tiny Tina and the other Vault Hunters can pull it off in style.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is set to release in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
