Devolver Digital showcases its upcoming asymmetrical multiplayer game Phantom Abyss with a gameplay trailer and release date at E3 on Saturday.

Devolver Digital debuted its upcoming game Phantom Abyss during the E3 showcase. The studio showed off the asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay and revealed an imminent early access release.

Phantom Abyss casts players in the role of an Indiana Jones-style adventurer archaeologist. They must rely on their wits and a combination grappling hook and whip to swing, grab, and dodge their way through a variety of deadly traps to avoid the fate of others that went before them.

The titular phantoms are ghostly apparitions representing players who failed to escape the temple. Players who can learn from the mistakes of others have a much better chance of completing their sprint through the deadly labyrinth.

And fans don’t have long to wait before giving it a try. Players can try the Early Access version on Steam as soon as June 22.

Judging by the E3 presentation, Phantom Abyss is not a game to pull its punches, and escaping with the golden artifact seems even harder than finding it. Boulders, spikes, and trap doors are just the beginning of what the mysterious temple has in store. Magical guardians will try to vaporize the player with lasers or hurl balls of energy in their direction. At least if the player dies, the next one can learn what not to do.

Phantom Abyss releases in early access June 22 for PC.
