E3's PC Gaming Show gives fans a new trailer for Icarus, which shows more PvE survival gameplay and the announcement of the game's release date.

More from Icarus has been shown during the PC Gaming Show at E3 this weekend, with gameplay and a release date in store for fans. Icarus is a PvE survival game that comes from Dean Hall, the creator of DayZ, at RocketWerkz.

Gameplay in Icarus appears similar to other PvE survival titles, such as The Long Dark or The Forest, where an emphasis is placed upon exploring, hunting, and collecting in order to survive different environmental dangers and status ailments. But Icarus appears to be turning the crafting and survival genre on its head, with a gameplay loop that stresses urgency and efficiency in its science-fiction elements. Icarus' narrative explains that Icarus was planned to be an inhabitable Earth-like planet that has become toxic during a failed terraforming experiment.

Icarus' new trailer at the PC Gaming Show blends a tense, science-fiction atmosphere into its survival gameplay. Players have the option of playing in single player or with up to eight other players in co-op. Harsh yet familiar terrains are seen in the trailer, with players able to produce impressive settlements and fend off bears in the remote area. It appears as though players only have a limited time with which they must survive and mine special resources before leaving Icarus to configure more advanced technology when it drops on August 11.

The intrigue of Icarus' gameplay is perhaps that players are tasked with returning rare, alien materials to orbit for research and technology purposes, which then influences the players' subsequent drops. If players are able to survive and harvest enough exotic matter, their survival results in more technology at their disposal. Icarus' loop ensures that the longer players are able to survive, the chances of them succeeding in exploration and survival is increased for future drops.

From the PC Gaming Show trailer, it appears as though the toxic plumes are either in particular regions of Icarus, or begin to saturate Icarus after a certain amount of time has passed. This suggests that players do not have long to gather resources and survive each biome. However, players that are unable to reach the orbital pick-up will be left behind, which may heighten the tension of each drop significantly for all players.

It will then be interesting to experience what differences and strategies players must concentrate upon in Icarus, particularly with how players spend time upon the savage wilderness. Fortunately, fans will not have to wait much longer to experience Icarus' PvE survival game with a unique sci-fi twist. Fans can pre-order Icarus effective immediately.

Icarus is currently scheduled to release for PC on August 11, 2021.
