Digimon Survive didn't show up at Bandai Namco's E3 showcase, and fans are concerned about the implications for the game's development/release.

Digimon Survive is one of the most anticipated games of the year, which is why it was strange to see the lack of updates during Bandai Namco's E3 presentation. Originally announced in 2018, Digimon Survive has had its fair share of delays due to the pandemic and issues with the game's systems. Set for a release sometime this year, fans are now worried that the lack of recent news surrounding the game indicates another delay, or the possibility of the title being stuck in development hell.

Thankfully, the Digimon News Navigation event is coming up on June 18, and while there hasn't been confirmation that Digimon Survive will appear, there might be a chance for some updates. Even if Digimon Survive does appear during the DigiNavi event, however, its lack of updates at E3 places the game in an awkward position. Skipping E3 indicates that Digimon Survive is either delayed again, or Bandai Namco perhaps isn't interested in advertising the game at a wider scale at this time.

Since its original announcement in July 2018, much of the information surrounding Digimon Survive has been kept under wraps. Although there have been a few trailers and reveals over the years, there have also been multiple delays due to the pandemic and issues with the game's systems. Scheduled for an original release in 2019, Digimon Survive was eventually pushed back to 2020 and now, 2021.

Of course, this isn't particularly strange given the impact of Covid-19, but fans are worried given the lack of communication surrounding the game. With Digimon Survive not appearing at E3, it seems that Digimon fans are concerned about the possibility of another delay or even the game being stuck in development hell.

All things considered, not much has really been revealed about the development process behind Digimon Survive. When producer Kazumasa Habu announced the delay of Digimon Survive to 2021, he also stated that there would be more news to follow in Spring 2021. With spring coming to an end and no development updates at Bandai Namco's E3 show, fans are concerned about the state of the game. While another delay would ensure Digimon Survive is the best game it can be, the real problem is that there aren't any official announcements despite its intended 2021 release date.

Thankfully, there is the small possibility that some Digimon Survive news could show up at the Digimon News Navigation event on June 18. Although the event will likely focus on the new Digimon trading card game and merchandise, it'll also be the most likely place for surprise Digimon Survive news to show up. However, even if Digimon Survive gets updates at the event, it's still concerning that Bandai Namco didn't showcase anything at E3. Historically, Bandai Namco has been criticized by fans for not advertising its new titles well in the West. Franchises like Tales, which are massive in Japan, don't receive the same advertising from Bandai Namco in the West.

Given that the Digimon franchise is nowhere as popular as Bandai Namco's biggest series, it would be concerning to see Digimon Survive end up as a reveal at the DigiNavi event. It could imply that Digimon Survive isn't important enough to show up at the biggest gaming event of the year, and that there's a good chance that Bandai Namco placed the title on the back burner.

Regardless if Digimon Survive shows up at DigiNavi or not, it's in an awkward position where it's either delayed and people continue to lose interest or it shows up but fans become concerned with how poorly Bandai Namco is promoting it. Digimon Survive has the potential to take the franchise to new heights, but the lack of updates regarding the game could prove to be detrimental to its success upon release.

Digimon Survive is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
