In Call of Duty: Warzone, the Riot Shield has a sense of infamy among the game's community. Mainly used for blocking incoming fire, fans have expressed frustration around the primarily protective weapon since its release in 2020. Now, a new patch has adjusted the Riot Shield's impact on Call of Duty: Warzone and the game's community.
The Riot Shield came to Call of Duty: Warzone after originally appearing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. While not as impactful in the multiplayer environment, many fans believed that its appearance in the battle royale causes too many problems. As a result, the developers have adjusted the Riot Shield's impact on Call of Duty: Warzone's community.

After the update on June 24, the discussion revolving around the Riot Shield's impact on Call of Duty: Warzone was reignited. The Season 4 update brought around several changes to the game, including removing the Riot Shield as a loot box item. Players can only find it through loadout drops at this time, making it a rare occurrence among the Call of Duty: Warzone community. While the developers offered no explanation as to why it was removed, they have released a statement stating that it is only a temporary change. It is unknown how many fans will switch to using the Riot Shield in Loadouts as an alternative to finding them on the map.
There will most likely be players who are both happy and sad to see the weapon appear less often in the game. While the Call of Duty: Warzone Riot Shield had a reputation for being unfair, it did still have a large fan base among the Call of Duty community. Less frequent interactions may open up alternative strategies for more alternative defensive playstyles to succeed.
Call of Duty: Warzone may be adjusting the Riot Shield in other ways in the near future, but so far, details as to what could change are unknown. With it appearing less frequently, players may stop relying on Molotovs and Thermite Grenades as standard loadout options as they mainly were used to counter Riot Shield users.
More changes are sure to come to Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 as time progresses. Several major issues and bugs appeared during the Season change, and fans are waiting on fixes for known bugs. Meanwhile, players are enjoying a change of pace with the new vehicle option and additional content themed to the Season 5 Ground Fall event.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
