The Solo Arenas in The Elder Scrolls Online aren't easy to beat. Follow this guide to emerge victorious and claim your winnings.

There are four different instance Arenas in Elder Scrolls Online. Two of these are solo, and the remaining two are group-based. Each Arena tests the fortitude of players with waves of bosses and enemies. Those that are skilled enough to defeat the final boss in an arena receive high-level loot and items.

The higher the difficulty, the better the rewards. Anyone looking for eternal glory will want to play on Veteran difficulty, which has a worldwide leaderboard. Every arena has a specific sigils, which provide a buff to the character. These buffs can be helpful, but will negatively impact a player's score on veteran difficulty. This guide will cover each of the solo arenas in Tamriel, including a few tips to get through each one.

Vateshran Hollows is one of the solo arenas located in The Reach. It features three different bosses in each instance, with a random boss in the first two stages. Those that survive the first two must defeat a final boss. When choosing which instance to complete first, players should consider whether their character uses Stamina or Magika. Gamers should do them in the order below:

  • Stamina: Blue, Red, Green
  • Magika: Green, Blue, then Red

Sigil buffs play a huge role in each fight, and the above order will make it easier due to combat scaling, meaning that the first boss will have less health and deal less damage than the second. Each boss will get progressively more difficult to defeat. Saving the most beneficial buffs for last is a smart strategy.

The above order also plays a key role in attaining the essences, which grant 5,000 points to either Stamina, Magika, or Health. The first instance will not have an essence, hence why the Stamina players start with blue and the Magika players start with green. Once an essence is picked up, five orbs will appear in the instance, which can be acquired for an additional 1,000 points each. The order listed will also grant players the specific buff/item they need to access the essence in each subsequent arena.

  • Red Arena: Lava Orb Needed To Get The Essence Of Stamina
  • Green Arena: Grapple Hook To Get The Essence Of Magika
  • Blue Arena: Teleportation Needed To Get The Essence Of Fortitude

Essence boosters will make the second, third, and final boss fight exponentially easier. Following the correct order, picking up the essences, and finding the orbs in the second and third instance is crucial.

Players should not have trouble with the first two random bosses if they follow the correct order and avoid each boss' main attacks. AOE attacks will help to control adds and these bosses will go down with a little bit of perseverance. Once they are dead, the final instance can begin.

The final boss in the arena will have a lot of health. She is not the strongest of bosses, but the adds can make the fight difficult to survive. The adds are a constant pain that players need to manage while trying to avoid her attacks and DPS.

Her AOE attacks are easy to avoid, just stay outside of the circles. The Colossus will be a threat because they will follow the character around the arena. When the shrouded figures begin to move toward the center of the platform, they needs to be killed or they will explode, killing the character. By taking down the Colossus while avoiding The Void Lich attacks, gamers will be able to weaken the boss.

Once the boss reaches 10% health, gamers will need to grapple to the orb floating outside of the platform. This orb will transport the character to a different zone. There, gamers will need to kill a Void Dremora with about 100k health, before they are transported back to the original platform.

The longer it takes to kill the enemy, the longer the Void Lich will have to heal. After the Dremora is defeated, players are transported back to the original platform to fight the Lich once again.

AOE attacks will be very helpful in the second phase to deal with all of the adds. Once the main boss is at low health, gamers will need to grapple to the island again and fight the minotaur mini boss.

If the minotaur is defeated, the next phase will begin, and players will rinse and repeat the same process. If the mages are defeated, the final main boss phase will begin and the Lich can be killed. With that, the arena is complete and a loot chest will spawn with several powerful items.

The Maelstrom Hollows arena is more beginner-friendly than the Vateshran Arena. It is located in Wrothgar, and features nine different bosses with waves of additional enemies.  As usual, the arena has sigils in each wave, providing helpful buffs for the character. However, as stated, using the sigils will decrease the potential score from the arena. Because of the enemies in this arena, mage classes are preferable.

The shield sigil will provide a shield that reflects all ranged attack from enemies. This can be extremely helpful for those that are less concerned about setting records. Likewise, the ox sigil increases damage which is equally overpowered.

Using these two buffs can make the arena a lot less stressful. Initial waves are not very taxing, and Maxus the Many can be defeated with a few simple tactics. Users should keep moving to prevent the boss from hitting precision attacks. He will teleport often, and each time he teleports another add will spawn. The faster he is killed, the less adds gamers will need to focus on.

In stage 2, there are blades that activate around the map. These will cause a bleed effect that stacks if hit too many times. Using the levers that spawn will deactivate the blades for a short period. It's also important to avoid the central area of the platform, which will cause a lot of electricity damage and likely kill the character.

When the centurions spawn, DPS the one without a shield until he powers down, then fight the shielded one. Repeat this process when the unshielded centurion powers beck up until they are both killed. Boss abilities do a lot of damage too, so shielding with the sigil or blocking them is important.

Using an ultimate on the larger enemies will ensure the adds can be taken care of and players can DPS the other adds. Memorize the sigils to keep the buffs active throughout. Stranglers can be sneaky and should be a priority during the fight. The Lamia Queen is a very powerful boss, and can stun with a frontal AOE attack. Skirting around the AOE is essential. Re-up on the sigils when she spawns and use movement to limit her effectiveness.

In the initial waves, taking down ranged enemies before they have the chance to heal is the best way to get to the boss. Gamers will want to make sure they have the shield and damage sigils active, as well as save their ultimate for The Control Guardian. Under the boss there will be a green circle marking a safe zone. Stay in the zone to avoid damage. If the green circle goes away, walk away from the boss until it reappears.

Players must stay on the glaciers to avoid being damaged by the frigid water. Large trolls will spawn, and need to be killed before they break one of the ice platforms. The same applies to giants that will spawn periodically.

When the boss spawns, he will not move until his health falls below a certain threshold. Gamers need to handle all of the adds so they can fight the boss 1v1 until the next phase. Avoid the platform by the shield and ox sigils last so that it can be used later in the stage. The boss will smash a platform after each stage in the fight, so players can choose to rotate to the platform with the other sigils.

Breaking all of the pillars is the best way to get to through the first wave fast. To do this, killing a horror near a pillar will destroy it. When destroyed, all of the adds will be stunned. Gold pillars repel the small spiders that swarm.

In wave 2, kill one of the lurchers and leave the other alive to recharge the character's ultimate. Leaving a pillar or two will allow players to stun the boss during the fight. Sigil timing combined with regular and AOE attacks will be key while trying to take down the boss.

Stage 7 is known to be the most irritating stage to get through. There are flowers that can cause a lot of damage if a character gets too close to them. If hit with the DOT of the flowers, use the green circles to cleanse. The Shield sigil will make gamers immune to the archers, and the Berserkers will send more DOT flowers, so he should be killed as soon as possible.

When fighting the boss, the only way to survive is to use the enemy mage shield after killing the first mage. The Behemoth will shout when the first mage dies, causing devastating damage. Killing both mages is certain death, so one of them will have to hang around.

In the first wave, players have to destroy the pillars to damage the lurcher. In the he final two waves it is important to stop the fire mages from using their spells. Knocking down the pillars in stage three will stun the mini-boss and kill all of the enemies.

Surprisingly, this boss is one of the easiest thus far. Destroying the pillars will stun the boss, who will go down quickly with an ultimate. Valkyn Tephra can only attack up close, and can be avoided by constant movement.

Finally, in the last stage players should avoid the white ghosts and walk into the yellow ghosts to activate a stun effect. In the fifth wave, players will have more success using their ultimate on the titan for DPS help while kiting the white ghosts. Voriak Solkin is the last boss that they must defeat in the arena. Gamers will want to grab one of the sigils before they engage. His heavy attack will deplete a lot of the character's health, so dodging it is a must. If he receives enough damage, Solkin will levitate.

If all the adds are cleared, players can use the portal to get on the top level. At this stage, three crystals must be destroyed. Players will have to watch for skull attacks, dodging when necessary. Additionally, watch out for the pink circles which mark where the lava will fall. Next, the boss will return to the ground, and gamers can use the same tactics from the first wave to finish him off. After his death, players can finally realize the fruits of their labor. A number of purple items will drop in the chest.
