Breaking into the prison in the quest To Save A Chief in Elder Scrolls Online can be difficult. Here's a look at exactly how to get it done.

To Save A Chief is one of the Orsinium DLC quests in Elder Scrolls Online. It has been in the game so long that beginners probably do not have a detailed guide on how to complete it. Like many of the classic Elder Scrolls missions, gamers will need to infiltrate an area and free a prisoner. It seems simple in theory, but breaking into the prison can be frustrating without any guidance. Eveli will be the main contact for the quest. She was sent by the high priestess to recruit help for a highly confidential mission. Gamers should follow the steps below to get through this quest as efficiently as possible.

First, speak to Eveli who is just inside the gates of Orsinium. She loves cake and small talk, so ask her how she's doing before getting down to business. Next, gamers will want to speak with the High Priestess to start the quest. Her location will be marked on the map. One of the clans has reached out to the Priestess for help as one of their chiefs was taken hostage by a Trinimac cult. The priestess believes that the cult called Vosh Rakh plans to kill the prisoner as a show of power. She provides two instructions.

  • Do not kill anyone on the way to the stronghold, as the cult may kill the hostages.
  • She is not sure who the chief is, so players will have to find that out on their own.

Gamers will then need to meet back up with Eveli at the Fharun Stronghold before executing the mission. Fast traveling to the Icy Shore Wayshrine will save some time.

Eveli will leave a trail of arrows to her location, which is under a staircase at the entrance of the stronghold. She will suggest splitting up to look for clues as to the prison's location. Because of the Priestess' orders players will want to stay in stealth mode while they search for clues. The quest can still be completed if a few of the cultists are killed, but the experience bonus will be forfeited. Eveli provides two options to complete the quest in stealth mode.

  • Sneak up to the orc near the tower and intimidate him
  • Head to the courtyard and eavesdrop for information about the prison

The courtyard method is the most straightforward, as there will usually be a few orcs on the way to the tower. Those that do not care about the optional method can hack and slash their way to the clues. Impatient players can search the buildings on the outside of the fortress until they find a supply crate that contains a map of the fortress. The map will reveal that the prison is underground, and can only be accessed if one can "fly down".  After finding the clue, meet with Eveli to discuss. Her location will appear on the map.

Eveli will state that she knows the stronghold has a well and that it might be a way to get into the prison. She tasks users with finding a rope near the forge to rappel down. Once gamers grab the rope they can initiate the rescue mission. Eveli will lead the way down. There will be a few escaped convicts to fight on the way to the prisoner.

The path to the prisoner is simple, just follow the mini-map and kill escapees while going deeper into the underground prison. Chief Bazrag, the prisoner, will be in the room to the right just before the stairs. Anyone that has walked up a flight of stairs has gone too far. He will be guarded by two low-level hostiles. Turns out, the cultists overthrew Bazrag's stronghold and he is a captive in his own prison.

Chief Bazrag is not exactly a cheerful chap, but he will come up with a masterful plan. Players will need to fend off enemies as he spreads poison to clear a path out of the prison. The poison is lethal, so it will be smart to stay well away from it. After killing the enemies, Bazrag will limp his way to an exit. Unfortunately, the way out is blocked by a room full of spikes, and Bazrag will need help turning the valves off to get past them. Gamers can memorize the pattern of the spikes to turn off every valve. There will be four more enemies to take down on the way out. Chief Bazrag will refuse to go back to the Priestess, but Eveli is there to save the day.

Instead of fighting the Vosh Rakh, people can hop on their mount and ride to Ulsha on the map. Ulsha is Bazrag's wife and initially contacted the Priestess for help. As a reward, Ulsha will give gamers Fharun's Rampart (Uncommon Shield) and some gold. Once the reward is claimed, the quest is complete.
