While Neopets can only come in a few basic colors upon their initial creation, there are multiple ways to customize them further once players dig into the game. Sure a red Shoryu looks nice, but what about one that looks like it's from an 8-bit game?

A lot of players want to paint their pets an unusual color type: Elderly. This color makes any Neopet look old, giving them wrinkles, scraggly hair, and stereotypical old people clothes. The outfits also vary between the genders of the pet in question. There are many ways to get a pet to become this color, including using the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush.
Not every Neopet is capable of being every color and the Elderly color is the same in this regard. Players should make sure they know their pet can actually take on this unique color scheme before they begin the quest to do so.
The Neopets that can be elderly are: Acara, Aisha, Bruce, Buzz, Cybunny, Draik, Eyrie, Grarrl, Grundo, Ixi, Kacheek, Kau, Kyrii, Korbat, Kougra, Lupe, Lutari, Mynci, Moehog, Meerca, Ogrin, Pteri, Peophin, Quiggle, Shoryu, Tuskaninny, Uni, Xweetok, and Yurble.
The Neopets that cannot be elderly are: Blumaroo, Bori, Chia, Chomby, Draik, Elephante, Flotsam, Gelert, Gnorbu, Hissi, Jetsam, JubJub, Kiko, Koi, Krawk, Lenny, Nimmo, Poogle, Ruki, Scorchio, Skeith, Techo, Tonu, Uni, Usul, Vandagyre, Wocky, and Zafara.
A select number of Pet Pers can also be changed to have the Elderly color. These include Babaa, Juma, Mallard, Mortog, Slorg, and Symol. Players will need to get an Elderly Petpet Paint Brush or encounter a lucky random event to do so for their petpet separately from their main pet.
As the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush currently sells for over one million Neopoints on second-hand markets like the Auction House or Trading Post, players that don't want to break the bank or grind games all day will need to find other ways to get the paintbrush for themselves.
Currently, there are no official shops that sell the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush so players will have to adventure to find it in different ways.

Players can buy lots of nerkmids and try their luck at the Alien Aisha Vending Machine in hopes that the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush will come out. Acquiring nerkmids isn't easy as they are also very expensive to buy with Neopoints. Players can get them free from random events, the Wheel of Extravagance, by beating Battledome challengers in the Cosmic Dome, and even as a prize from the vending machine itself.
Even if players manage to do so, the Vending Machine only has a 5% chance to even give a paintbrush of any kind as a prize, let alone the Get Off My Lawn Paint Brush.
There are two other ways that players can attempt to make their pets have the Elderly color. These also require a bit of luck but can be the best way to make things happen for players that can't afford to buy the brush with Neopoints and have the patience to grind for a while.
The Rainbow Fountain allows players to paint their pets any color they want. The catch is that the only way to access it is to get a quest from the Rainbow Fairy which is incredibly rare. However, players willing to spend real life currently can purchase a Fairy Quest Cookie which will give them a single fairy quest of any kind each day for nine days.
While the chances of it being the Rainbow Fairy still aren't high, it certainly helps increase the odds.
Once players collect all 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map they can have access to the Secret Lab Ray. This allows players to zap their pets once a day which can result in a wild array of effects including changing the Neopet's color.
However, there is only a 9% chance it will change the color at all and players have no choice what color it will change into (suddenly having a Snot Neopet is pretty gross). With a chance of the ray being able to not only change a pet's gender but also its species entirely, players should be cautious if they take this route.
While this one can be quite hard, it is possible to get paintbrushes from the various contests Neopets holds such as the Caption Contest. There is also the Beauty Contest, Story-Telling Contest, and the Random Contest. It's also possible to get paintbrushes by submitting items to the Poetry Gallery and Art Gallery,
