There are only a few days left until the worldwide release of Capcom's Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Avid fans are likely very excited, given that Capcom was generous enough to provide players with a trial version of the upcoming game last June 25, and even had a dedicated online showcase to talk about future updates for the title. Now, unofficial news is circulating online that the physical copies of the role-playing game will require a large download, sparking a lot of confusion and disappointment within fanbase.
For many Monster Hunter players, the Monster Hunter Stories titles likely provide a welcome break from the series' typical hunting grind. Instead of actively slaughtering monsters, gamers have to partner with their former foes and work alongside them in battle instead. This offers a unique opportunity for fans to love and care for a number of their favorite monsters. And in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, more monsters have been added to the roster, including iconic foes such as Bazelgeuse and Nergigante from Monster Hunter World.

Reported by one of the readers of NintendoEverything, they were able to share news that Monster Hunter Stories 2 will require downloading of files before players can access the game. The site's reader has been reported as a worker for a retail store, allowing them access to physical copies before the official Wings of Ruin release date. The front of the case indicates that the game will require downloads, while the back states that at least 15 GB of space will be needed for said download. This has come as an unwelcome surprise for the fans, given that these labels were not posted previously on any of the game's official artwork.
Though Capcom has not officially commented on this news, fans are likely considering this large download size to be counterproductive. Most physical cartridges for the Nintendo Switch only require a minimal download size, and those are usually for launch day patches and updates. However, given the sheer amount of post-launch content recently announced by Capcom, complete with a collaboration with Monster Hunter Rise, the Wings of Ruin download size may indicate the total storage space needed for the game in its entirety.
Nevertheless, fans are likely hoping that Capcom will clear the air soon and declare the real file size of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. If the news is true and the game does need 15 GB of storage, fans may need to check the memory of their Nintendo Switch to make sure they have enough space for the upcoming title.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will be released for the Nintendo Switch on July 9th.
