After an extremely long wait, it is finally the week when Black Widow premieres in theaters. As part of its marketing campaign, Marvel Studios has released a new featurette that gives fans a look at the importance of family in Natasha Romanoff’s life and her bond with adoptive sister Yelena before she became a part of the Avengers.
The exclusive clip opens with Scarlett Johansson’s voiceover and she is heard saying that the Avengers were not her “first family.” Fans truly don’t know everything about this character, who has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade since making her first appearance in 2010's Iron Man 2. Since then, she has gone on to become an integral part of the Avengers and has had major character development. Black Widow is a chance for fans to learn about her past.

The Black Widow featurette consists of flashbacks, where a young Romanoff lives with her parents, David Harbour's Red Guardian and Rachel Weisz's Melina Vostokoff. It becomes obvious within the first few seconds that there will be a focus on how her family helped “shape the person that Natasha became.” Even when she is in full costume, she has typical familial moments where her mother tells her not to slouch.
A lot of the featurette focuses on the relationship between Black Widow and Yelena, and the sibling rivalry that exists between the two. It is almost reminiscent of the bond between Thor and Loki, with the two constantly picking on each other but also standing up for the other in a time of need. Both Johansson and Florence Pugh are all praise for each other and seemed to have loved working together to bring the siblings' love to the big screen.
Pugh also reveals a cute story about how Johansson brought her six-year-old daughter Rose to set one day. Pugh asked Johansson what her daughter thought she did and instead of knowing that her mother is an actor, Rose believes that she “fights baddies for a living.” This moment brings her real and reel family together, which has some The Fast and the Furious fans excited.
Over the past few days, a new trend has taken over social media with several users sharing Vin Diesel’s “family” memes. Games, movies, and television shows, fans seemed to have covered it all. With the main focus of the new Black Widow featurette being on family, the exclusive clip has the seal of approval from the Fast and Furious fans.
Black Widow will be released in theaters and on Disney Plus with Premier Access on July 9, 2021.
