The Witcher season 2 premieres on Netflix later this year, as confirmed during the two-day WitcherCon that celebrates the franchise.

After a very long wait, season 2 of The Witcher is finally headed to Netflix in the form of an early Christmas present for its fans. As part of the ongoing WitcherCon, a two-day event for all things related to The Witcher franchise, it has been revealed that the second season of the popular series premieres on the streaming service on December 17, 2021.

The second season of The Witcher will finally show fans Geralt of Rivia and Ciri together after they spent most of the first season looking for each other. The two were seen uniting just as season 1 ended, and it has been previously confirmed that they will be spending a lot of time at Kaer Morhen, headquarters of the Witchers, in the upcoming season.

Even though Ciri will be under Geralt’s care, she will be seen interacting with other Witchers, including Paul Bullion’s Lambert. Netflix has previously released a Witcher teaser clip showing Ciri undergoing training and becoming a master sword wielder. During WitcherCon, Netflix also released a photograph of Ciri and Lambert in what seems to be a training session at Kaer Morhen, which was later shared on social media. The streaming giant also shared the first look at Joey Batey’s Jaskier in action in The Witcher's second season.

Apart from the release date, which already has fans of the series feeling very excited, the titles of the first seven episodes of The Witcher season 2 were revealed, which immediately led to viewers theorizing over what the season had in store for their favorite characters. The eighth episode title was “redacted,” perhaps to retain the element of surprise. The season will consist of 10 episodes in total, which leaves the last three episodes completely shrouded in mystery.

Fans have had to wait a long time for the series to return for its second season, with the first one having premiered in December 2019. Due to the ongoing pandemic, shooting on The Witcher season 2 was delayed several times. Just as production began, the first set of lockdowns were announced around the world, pushing the shoot back by several months. Additionally, several members of the crew tested positive for COVID-19 and lead actor Henry Cavill also suffered an injury while filming.

But, the wait is now almost over and fans have very high expectations from the upcoming season. Of course, after such a long period in-between seasons, some fans might just be happy to see the show return no matter what happens.

The Witcher season 2 premieres exclusively on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
