Few video games are as iconic as Skryim, and one of the most iconic video game memes from that game inspired this fan's Halloween costume.

Fans have heard it a thousand times, and yet "arrow to the knee" jokes still haven't gotten old. One fan took this iconic Skyrim meme to the next level by using it as an inspiration for their Halloween costume. To make matters even more funny, the costume was extra believable since this person also happened to sustain a knee injury of their own beforehand. The result is an amazing Halloween costume that just might be the best 'arrow to the knee" reference out there.

For players that somehow missed the ongoing Skyrim craze that started in 2011, "taking an arrow to the knee" is an ongoing meme that sprouted forth from one of the voice lines that town guards in that game have. When players approach a guard, they will sometimes say "I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee."

Redditor Johvalo shared their Halloween costume on the official Skyrim subreddit, and it has already garnered almost ten thousand upvotes and several hundred comments. Johvalo explains that he tore a ligament in his knee, rendering him bound to crutches and wearing a wrap. Rather than letting this unfortunate accident get him down, he instead decided to make the best of it. For Halloween that year, Johvalo dressed up as a Whiterun guard, referencing the meme both with his crutches and the fact that he put an arrow sticking out of his bandages.

Fans in the comments absolutely seem to love the costume, employing plenty of other infamous Skyrim quotes and memes in response to the unspoken meme in the picture. Digging through the comments reveals a bit more about the story. For example, Johvalo actually wore the costume to a Halloween party, and it seems as though it was a bit hit. Others mention that they have the exact same helmet, and it seems like most purchased it from Spirit Halloween.

For those that find themselves concerned for Johvalo, he explains that the injury happened a few years ago. Since then, he has gotten much better and regained his mobility. Whether or not he returned to the adventuring life or stayed as a Whiterun guard remains to be seen, but at the very least there's no need to worry about his health. While injuries like this are always unfortunate both to hear about and to experience, it's nice to see that this player found the silver lining in this case.

Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
