Players looking to be the sharpest shooter on the net will want to understand how Deadeye works and picks the card that suits them most.

Deadeye works differently in Red Dead Online. Players will no longer be able to slow down time for a better chance at a critical hit. It can be difficult for story mode players to adjust when they join the online community. Hunting can be more challenging, and the pace of the game speeds up quite a lot.

Instead of slowing down time, Deadeye in RDO can provide a number of different advantages. Gamers can choose between six different Deadeye cards, with each suiting a particular playstyle. Players need to consider the positives and negatives of each card and what types of builds work best for each.

There are a few things people will want to know about Deadeye before the different cards are explained. First, players are prevented from using tonics while Deadeye is in effect. Another important thing to keep in mind is that other users will be able to tell when a character has Deadeye activated, as their appearance will change.

Deadeye will not prevent gamers from running, shooting, or dodging. However, the Slow and Steady card will block the sprint animation.

The first of the six ability cards is Focus Fire. This card provides an additional damage bonus while active. Focus Fire applies to both the players that activate it and their squad members. Because it provides a boost to squads, it is very effective in the story missions. However, if two members of the same squad use the ability, it will not stack. Instead, the ability will stay active until the second character's Deadeye meter runs out.

This card is very useful for a non-tonic build. While active, A Moment to Recuperate will begin to restore health to the player's core bar. The downside to using the ability is that when shot, Deadeye will cancel. To be effective, gamers must find sufficient cover when using the card. Getting shot will reduce health and stop Deadeye's effects. The ability is better suited for longer-ranged fights so that the user can seek cover before activating it.

Paint it Black is both a Rolling Stones hit and an overpowered ability card in RDO. Similar to Deadeye in story mode, the ability allows players to mark enemies. The ability is a godsend for those that enjoy hunting and PVP. There is no need to press buttons, as Paint It Black automatically marks enemies that cross the reticle while aiming down sight. Regardless of the accuracy of the gun, bullets will hit marked enemies every time.

The only exception is when a target is no longer in the line of sight. To limit the ability, Rockstar has added an additional Deadeye drain after each shot. Likewise, the ability has a limited range that prevents marking targets at longer distances. Another counter to the ability is the Slippery Bastard card, which is covered below.

The Slow and Steady ability card is a great choice for a tank build. It will reduce incoming damage by 20% and reduce headshot damage to match the damage of a body shot. As mentioned above, this ability will prevent the player from sprinting or dodging while it is in use. Any damage sustained will drain the Deadeye meter as well. Slow and Steady provides damage reduction but makes gamers easier targets to hit at the same time.

This card is similar to Focus Fire except it heals users and their teammates while active. Unlike A Moment To Recuperate, Quite An Inspiration will not cancel if the character is shot. Instead, it will keep healing players until the Deadeye meter is empty. Although, the healing rate is slower than A Moment To Recuperate. Overall, it is a useful and reliable card for a variety of scenarios.

Slippery Bastard prevents enemies from locking on and reduces their accuracy. Players will also have reduced accuracy while the ability card is in use. Anyone with the ability card should consider using a bow or scoped gun. These weapons are not affected by the accuracy reduction. A shot on target with a bow/scoped gun will always result in a successful shot.

It should be noted that the Deadeye meter will drain much faster with this card than any of the others. Even with a few limitations, Slippery Bastard can be incredibly useful in PVP. Opposing players will struggle to hit shots while the bow will connect each arrow that is on target.
