This step-by-step guide covers how to complete the Hanar Diplomat Mission in BioWare's Mass Effect 3.

The Mass Effect 3 mission "Hanar Diplomat" takes place in the Citadel. Shepard will receive a help request email from Jondum Bau. He believes that there is information suggesting that prominent political figures have ties to the Reapers. To begin the quest, players will need to make their way to the Embassy where he will be standing by the front door.

Bau has evidence that an Alliance black ops team raided a Batarian research station. The Batarians were studying Reaper technology. Bau's predicts that the Hanar were behind the Alliance attack and that they were given Batarian technology. Players will start the quest by searching for clues at the Spectre office. Anyone having trouble with bugs or glitches during the quest should read the final entry in this guide.

As soon as Shepard enters the Spectre office, a notorious hacker named Kasumi will appear. She will offer her assistance with the mission by remaining cloaked while Shepard does some digging around. After speaking with Kasumi, players will want to check the Spectre terminal. There, they should click on Hanar Embassy Tracking and then click on authorize. This will begin the next step in the mission by narrowing down all of the potential culprits.

From the terminal, Shepard will need to exit the room and walk down the stairs to the right. Head to the far side of the lobby and bypass the terminal on the wall. Shepard will then be able to confirm that there are some mysterious Hanar transfers. Next, players can take the elevator to the Normandy Dock Bay and access the Docks: Holding Area. Use the terminal outside of the elevator on the left to deliver more information to Bau.

The following terminal is on the other side of the Docking Bay. Walk forward to the docking side of the bay and make a right. The terminal will be at the end of the room on the right side of the wall. Players will then want to retrace their steps and bypass the terminal by the elevator. Bau will send a NavPoint to the office of Zymandis, who Bau suspects is behind the Hanar attacks. The waypoint will be in the Citadel Emissaries, as soon as the elevator opens a cut scene will begin.

  • Terminal 1: Lobby outside of the Spectre Office
  • Terminal 2: By the elevator in the docking bay
  • Terminal 3: Far-right side of the docking bay from the elevator
  • Terminal 4: Same as terminal 2

Zymandis will state that because the Protheans/Collectors serve the Reapers, as a Hanar diplomat, he too must serve the Reapers. Next, Shepard will say one of the best lines in the series, "You big stupid jellyfish!". He's not wrong, as the logic of Zymandis is inherently flawed. Said jellyfish uploaded a virus that will disable the planetary defense network unless Kasumi can block the upload. Meanwhile, Shepard will knock out the guard that tries to delay Bau. The jellyfish is then killed and Kasumi's attempts to stop the virus are apparently thwarted by a failsafe.

The failsafe blast will hit Kasumi, but she will manage to stop the virus. Kasumi will cloak and fake her death to fool Bau, who had been pursuing her for a long time. Bau and Kasumi have a love-hate relationship that comes to a climax at the end of the mission. It is clear that Bau considers Kasumi a friend and colleague despite his attempts to arrest her. Little does he know, she will make an appearance at a later time.

By completing the quest, players will earn the loyalty of both Bau and Kasumi for future missions. For their efforts, players will also gain 210 experience and a handful of reputation depending on whether Shepard uses the Paragon or Renegade dialogue options. In this mission, dialogue choices will be less important apart from reputation. Everyone will need to complete the mission before the Cerberus attack on the Citadel. Following the attack, the mission will no longer be available.

A lot of people have reported a glitch where the mission fails to update after talking with Kasumi in the initial scene. To fix the issue, players will need to return to the autosave before speaking with her and go to the Spectre terminal first. Those who do not have a save before speaking to Kasumi in the Spectre office may be out of luck. The quest will not update or re-initiate once people leave the Citadel.

Another problem people have is getting the email from Bau to start the quest. The Priority Palaven email mission has to be completed before Bau will send the Help message to Shepard.
