Call of Duty: Warzone is changing its Gulag yet again with Season 5, this time taking inspiration from a popular Black Ops 2 map.

One way that Call of Duty: Warzone has been able to stand out from the rest of the battle royale games on the market is thanks to its unique Gulag system. In many battle royale games, dying means being completely out of the game, but Call of Duty: Warzone's Gulag made it so players could earn their way back into a match by defeating an opponent in 1v1 combat. This became one of the game's most popular features, though today's Gulag looks much different than the original one.

As Call of Duty: Warzone has evolved, so too has its Gulag. There have been a variety of Gulags over the past year, including one based on Nuketown and another Gulag based on Black Ops 2 map Hijacked. Now it seems that the Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag is set to get yet another makeover, as Activision has confirmed that the upcoming Season 5 of the game will bring with it a brand new look for the Gulag.

Once Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 starts on August 12, players will notice that the Gulag now resembles the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 map Rush. Rush is a paintball arena that was just added to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer with the Season 4 Reloaded update last month. Activision encourages those that want to practice for the new Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag to jump into Rush matches in Black Ops Cold War.

The latest iteration of Call of Duty: Warzone's Gulag has not been the most popular, so it seems safe to say that many fans will be happy to see Rush added instead. Rush has consistently been a popular map, and there's no reason to think that it won't be popular as the Gulag as well. Then again, there could be unforeseen issues with Rush in Call of Duty: Warzone, and the map could also cause a number of new Gulag glitches as well.

While there are likely many Call of Duty: Warzone fans who will be happy with Rush being the new Gulag, others are still calling for the return of the original Gulag. The original Call of Duty: Warzone Gulag seems to have been the most popular version so far, and so fans have repeatedly expressed their discontent online that it was removed. Whether or not Activision ever brings it back to remains to be seen, but it seems highly unlikely at this point.

After all, there are rumors that a brand new Call of Duty: Warzone map is on the horizon, one that will replace Verdansk and embrace a World War 2 theme to match Call of Duty 2021. These rumors haven't been verified but with the Call of Duty 2021 reveal right around the corner, fans should have their answers sooner rather than later.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
