The Suicide Squad director James Gunn isn't too worried about Justice League and Zack Snyder cut fans review bombing his latest movie.

The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and director James Gunn doesn't seem too concerned about the possibility of DC fans review bombing the film. The Suicide Squad is a follow-up to the 2016 David Ayer film that was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.

The Suicide Squad will neither be a sequel or a reboot of the previous film, but it will keep some of the same cast for the returning characters. Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag are the returning characters from the first film. Apart from them, there will also be new characters who will make their first appearance in DC's live-action timeline. Newcomers include King Shark, Peacekeeper, and even the less popular villains such as Polka-Dot Man.

Fans have been campaigning for a director's cut of Ayer's Suicide Squad after the positive reception towards Zack Snyder's true vision being released for his Justice League film. It's become public knowledge that there were conflicting visions during the making of Suicide Squad which led to the story falling flat for many viewers. Fans believe if Ayer was able to get his accurate vision out for the world, then the movie would've been received well because viewers have seen what happens when a studio gets in the way of a director's vision. Fans arguably succeded in getting the Snyder Cut of Justice League released through relentless tactics that may have included review bombing other DC films, but Gunn does not appear to be concerned about those folks targeting The Suicide Squad.

His tweet is in response to a fan asking if he's concerned about Snyder fans review bombing the otherwise well-received The Suicide Squad. Gunn points out that most of them are supportive since their loyalty is with DC and the ones who are toxic aren't of his concern because they're just the vocal minority in terms of the overall fanbase. It would be concerning if fans took their anger out on Gunn's film but at the same time, it would make the most sense for Snyder Cut supporters to use The Suicide Squad as a scapegoat because the studio greenlit a brand new film rather than releasing the "proper cut" for the 2016 film. Fans are taking to the idea of movies getting a proper cut that reflects the director's vision, but at the same time, DC fans can't really afford to focus their attention on just one film or the other, especially because the live-action DC films are playing catch up with Marvel.

All is not lost because DC has Marvel beat in the animated movie, video games, and television show department. If DC were to beat Marvel in the live-action film department, that would be unprecedented. DC currently has a continuity going with the animated films, which has been getting positive reactions from fans.

Hopefully, fans will get to see a better turnout after The Suicide Squad. If the reactions to the film are any indication, it appears DC Films has their most well-received live-action feature since the first Wonder Woman film.

The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max.
