Destiny 2 has announced the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack, and while there are some questions about it, there is plenty that's already known.

Bungie was officially founded in 1991, meaning the storied studio's 30th anniversary is quickly approaching. To celebrate, Bungie is releasing a pack in Destiny 2 this December, which aims to pay homage to both Bungie's history and Destiny 2. Announced during Bungie's recent showcase stream, the pack is scheduled to release on December 7 and will bring plenty of new content.

The announcement of the pack followed the reveal of Destiny 2's next expansion, Witch Queen. Destiny 2 players have a decent while to wait for the next expansion, which is planning on continuing the current storyline in the game when it releases in February 2022. However, there is still plenty to occupy players with until then, such as its newest season and the 30th Anniversary Pack coming in just a handful of months. While there is still more information that Bungie has yet to reveal about the pack, there is a lot that is already known about it, and some pretty credible leaks and rumors regarding what else could be in store.

New Gear in the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack

One of the biggest inclusions in the 30th Anniversary Pack is the return of Destiny's infamous Gjallarhorn launcher. The launcher will undoubtedly be changed somewhat from its original incarnation so that it does not dominate the game's meta as it has before, but it is still very exciting to see it returning to guardians' hands. Even better, the launcher will be unlocked via completing a quest, so players will have a guaranteed route to unlocking it yet again. It will be very interesting to see just how strong the launcher is, and whether or not it will end up being banned in some game modes like some of Destiny 2's other exotics, but hopefully, the players who pay for the pack and unlock it will be able to get a lot of use out of it.

Of course, there is plenty of other loot coming to Destiny 2 as part of the pack, which Bungie says will include a variety of iconic gear from the series as well as references to some of the studio's other titles. There are still many questions about what loot will all be included, but Bungie has revealed that it will include a claymore inspired by the studio's strategy title Myth. Owners of the pack will also get exclusive access to a few armor ornament sets that are inspired by Marathon and streetwear. The ornament sets definitely have unique looks to them and might be tempting for players who were upset with Destiny 2's recently released Armor Synthesis system.

New Activities in the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack

Bungie has also revealed that the pack will include some new activities for players to check out when it launches. The first is a new pirate-themed dungeon that is also inspired by Destiny's infamous loot cave in the Cosmodrome. The dungeon will bring some new challenges, while also offering up a suit of armor that is only available in the dungeon and is themed around the iconic exotic hand cannon Thorn. Bungie's description of the dungeon also teases it seeing players spelunking into the unknown as well as saying that players will be searching for lost relics throughout the dungeon. Of course, it is not very much to go on, but players will likely have to wait until Destiny 2's new dungeon releases to know more.

While the new dungeon is only available to players who purchase the 30th Anniversary Pack, Bungie has also promised that there will be plenty of new gear and content for all players to enjoy free of charge. The only slice of this that has been teased so far is a new six-player matchmade activity that will likely be similar to other recent seasonal activities like Destiny 2's Override. Bungie has also said that all players will be able to unravel new secrets while hunting down some of the event's new gear. Bungie also teased that after the pack is released more free events will be added for all players as well, although it is not clear what is all being planned.

Rumors Surrounding the Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack

With how tight-lipped Bungie has been regarding details on what other content players can expect to be coming to Destiny 2 with the 30th Anniversary Pack, it is not surprising that rumors have begun circulating to fill in the gaps. One of the biggest of these follows up on a leak that claimed Halo content would be coming to Destiny 2. The leak at the time reported that a Halo-themed mission would be added to the looter shooter, while subsequent leaks now claim that Halo gear will also be added to the game including needler arms and a Halo Ring bond for Warlocks.

Leaks have also possibly revealed some of the other content coming to the game as well. This includes four new PvP maps with two of them being entirely new and two others being ports of classic Destiny maps. The leaks also suggest that a new PvP mode is coming to the game called Hardware that will restrict players to only using weapons and no abilities. This mode could be a big hit with the game's community as Destiny 2 has struggled to properly balance its stasis abilities in PvP modes.

Even if the leaks end up being false, the 30th Anniversary Pack seems like it will be pretty exciting for Destiny 2 and Bungie fans. With the size of the pack, and its inclusion of free content alongside the paid pack, it seems as though Bungie is positioning it as a halfway point between The Season of the Lost and the launch of Witch Queen, which seems like a smart move to help keep players engaged with the game in the interim. Hopefully, the pack and all of its new content is a big success so that players are glad they purchased it while they wait for Witch Queen to contribute to early 2022 that is packed with new releases.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
