Quick Links
Pokemon GO is filled with the majority of the Pokemon seen in the main series at this point with many fan-favorites currently implemented. One of these Pokemon is Eevee, a pure Normal-type Pokemon known for its many different evolutions. These evolutions aren't just a gimmick however, with many of them having good power to back them up in battle.
Umbreon is Eevee's Dark-type evolution that was introduced in the Pokemon's second generation. With how old it is, Umbreon has been available in Pokemon GO for quite a long time with plenty of players having at least one in their collection. This also means that there's plenty of players that can take advantage of its power in battle.

While Umbreon isn't the most powerful Pokemon out there, it can be a helpful Dark-type move user in Raid battles, Gym battles, and Team GO Rocket battles. It is weak to damage from Fighting, Bug, and Fairy-type moves and resists damage from Ghost, Dark, and Psychic-type moves.
How to Get Umbreon
Umbreon is normally obtained via evolving Eevee. If players don't have an Umbreon yet, they can make use of the nickname trick to guarantee Eevee into evolving into Umbreon normally. In order to do this, players must nickname their Eevee of choice "Tamao". Players will then need to evolve their Eevee as normal with 25 Eevee candies.
If players already used this trick, they must use the normal evolution method. This requires players to select the Eevee of choice as their buddy Pokemon. Players must then walk at least 10 kilometers alongside their Eevee. This does not need to be done all at once and can be done over time.
After walking enough kilometers, players will see a Pokemon's sillhouette by the evolve button on the chosen Eevee's menu. In order to make the Eevee evolve into Umbreon, the Eevee must be evolved at night. If evolved during the day, the Eevee will evolve into Espeon instead. This still costs 25 Eevee candies.
Best Umbreon Moveset
After obtaining Umbreon, it can learn a small variety of moves in order to help in battle. Its full list of possible moves is:
Fast Move | Move Type |
Feint Attack | Dark |
Snarl | Dark |
Charge Move | Move Type |
Dark Pulse | Dark |
Foul Play | Dark |
Last Resort | Normal |
Psychic | Psychic |
While it might be tempting to go for a move outside Umbreon's usual Dark-type, the best moveset for the most possible damage takes advantage of Umbreon's same type attack bonus. Because of this, players should select Snarl for its fast move and Foul Play for its charge move.
