Another Call of Duty: Warzone datamine discovers potential evidence of Donnie Darko being added to the game possibly for a Halloween event.

As a live service game, Call of Duty: Warzone is constantly changing and evolving to keep the game feeling fresh and making sure players continue to log in as much as possible. These changes include hotfixes and period updates to stabilize the game and fix issues like glitches and bugs, though for most fans, the big changes come with new seasons. Every few months, Call of DUty: Warzone gets a seasonal update, which adds a new playable character like the season 5 operator Kitsune, as well as other cosmetics, battle pass items, maps, and more.

However, like many other live-service style games, Call of Duty: Warzone also takes advantage of holidays to add in special limited time modes or themed content. For example, last Halloween, Raven Software brought new bundles for purchase into the online store including horror movie skins like Leatherface. In addition, they released a special limited time mode called Haunting of Verdansk and involving a trick or treat style scavenger hunt. As expected, a new leak seems to reveal some interesting new plans for Halloween 2021.

According to the leaker Nanikos, Call of Duty: Warzone appears to be gearing up for another special Halloween season with skins based on horror movies. Inside the game's files, Nanikos discovered code referencing 'Donnie' which naturally led most people to believe it was in reference to the 2001 film, Donnie Darko. While nothing is confirmed at this time, the files reference a calling card, wrist accessories, and an emblem, basically items associated with a full Operator skin.

At this time, the annual All Hallows Eve event does not have a release date and Activision has yet to officially mention it. However, this potential Donnie Darko leak isn't the first reference players have found to potential Halloween specific content. Just a few weeks ago in the game's files, the term 'Ghostface' was discovered, which seems to be an obvious reference to the Scream antagonist. Similar to the 2020 event, it seems that players will have at least two Halloween inspired Operator skins to pick from.

Crossovers are nothing new for battle royale games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone. In fact, the latter has seen plenty of movie icons make the jump to the popular first person shooter. Earlier this year, 80s action icons Rambo and John McClane arrived in game along with content based on the movie Die Hard. Just recently, Judge Dredd was being teased, though hackers were able to access the unreleased Judge Dredd skin earlier than anticipated in matches.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
