Marvel's Avengers' hits and misses come hand-in-hand. Some content is beloved by the community, while other content and decisions made by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix confuse fans. With a significant content drop having launched last month that introduced Black Panther and the Wakandan biome, Marvel's Avengers players have had a lot to be excited about for the last while.
However, there is a continuous thread of community concerns and pressing matters that the Marvel's Avengers community wishes to see overhauled or repaired in the game. Marvel's Avengers' Marketplace has been a point of contention since the game's launch, with issues relating to costs, cosmetics, and gear being addressed on several occasions. Recently, players have expressed their alarmed disgust toward a particular skin cosmetic for Thor.

Marvel's Avengers' latest Thor skin, Hel Shadow, is allegedly meant to reflect a rusted, dirty appearance. Rather, fans have instead equated the look to Thor being covered in fecal matter, turning them off to the cosmetic entirely. Marvel's Avengers fans have questioned whether the skin is a joke before acknowledging that it is in fact authentic, and can't disassociate the rust from excrement anymore. EZ_Breezy1997 goes as far as to create a sarcastic backstory lore for this fecal iteration of Thor, joking that it "goes in depth on the struggles of Thor, and his dire need to find a toilet."
This perception was surely not the intent of Crystal Dynamics or Square Enix. Regardless, the community has now misinterpreted the cosmetic as such. This stems from fans' larger claims that Marvel's Avengers' skin cosmetics are lazy. Aldo_D_Apache suggests that with each new cosmetic, Marvel's Avengers is able to get players to forget about previous cosmetics that also fell short of expectations.
I really thought that Thor skin was a joke but it was actually real. This was my initial reaction. from PlayAvengers
Cosmetics inspired by the MCU have been regularly announced and players are excited to welcome them into Marvel's Avengers, but that has not prevented the game's disappointing cosmetics from being ridiculed. Thor's rusted cosmetic is not a complete outfit redesign that also features a rusted aesthetic. Instead, it is a reskin of a previous Thor skin with a rusted aesthetic filtered on top. Fans argue that this latest Thor cosmetic, besides its obvious visual detriments, represents that lack of consideration and quality in Marvel's Avengers' cosmetics.
With so many fans painting this mental projection, it may be difficult for others in the community to justify the cosmetic as anything other than defecation-related. Lately, God of War: Ragnarok's iteration of Thor has been a jarring juxtaposition for fans who are uninitiated with the god's supposed traditional appearances. However, it does not seem likely that fans will be as forgiving toward Marvel's Avengers' Hel Shadow cosmetic and its unintended aesthetic.
Marvel's Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
