Video game or movie-themed food is not rare these days, but getting something made by a friend to celebrate that you’ve been cast to be a part of the MCU is on an entirely different level, However, Simu Liu’s fortune is just that great as the actor has his own Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings bubble tea.
Liu has been riding a wave of success for the past three weeks after Shang-Chi looks set to become 2021’s most commercially sound film at the box office, at least until Spider-Man: No Way Home swings by come December. Even though Shang-Chi won’t be getting close to China anytime soon, with it being the first movie properly set in Marvel Studios’ Phase Four it has had no issue whatsoever drawing moviegoers to theaters.

In order to commemorate the introduction of Marvel’s first mainline Asian superhero Watcher’s Steven Lim (Buzzfeed’s Worth It) decided to make his good friend part of his Dish granted series that aims to create the ultimate expensive food experience for its guests. So what is Lui’s dream dish? Well, as it turns out nothing does it for the star like good old bubble tea enhanced to capture all the power of Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings, with exactly 10 ingredients that make Lim’s creation look amazing, and probably taste great too.
The finalized version of the drink looks simply fantastic, capturing all of Shang-Chi’s costume colors in great fashion, so much that it’s almost a shame to mix it all together to drink it. Liu seems thrilled with the result both in taste and looks, so much that he invited his friend Lim to attend Shang-Chi’s premiere at the time.
For anyone looking to recreate this delicious looking drink at home, the full list of ingredients is: homemade boba pearls, melted brown sugar, dragonfruit jam, a strawberry puree, charcoal-infused matcha, black sesame, oat milk, black tea ice cubes, and dalgona style cream, and, of course, gold flakes, because why not? Although some parts of preparing this glorious bubble tea look a bit challenging, Lim does a great job at explaining the entire process so it’s not that far out of reach, except maybe for the gold flakes but those are just for show anyhow.
In any case, this colorful bubble tea looks like the perfect pairing to rewatch Shang-Chi once the movie drops on Disney Plus starting November 12, so there's plenty of time to perfect one's boba skills until that happens.
