The Secret Cow Level has a special place in video game history, and indeed it is possible to access it in Diablo 2: Resurrected. However, some players may be unclear on exactly how to reach this famous map, and they will not find much information on the matter in-game. Fortunately, it is quite simple to make the Secret Cow Level in Diablo 2: Resurrected, and this guide contains full details on the process.
How to Make Secret Cow Level in Diablo 2: Resurrected
The first step toward reaching the Secret Cow Level is to complete Diablo 2: Resurrected’s campaign. This campaign unfolds over the course of five Acts, and fans that are playing for the very first time should expect to spend 10 or more hours getting through it. Notably, players that want to visit the secret level on Nightmare or Hell difficulties will also need to finish those more-challenging versions of the campaign first.

After completing the main story, fans that have their sights set on the Secret Cow Level must take possession of two items: Wirt’s Leg and a Tome of Town Portal. The first of these items can be found in Tristram, which is accessed by passing through the portal at Diablo 2’s Cairn Stones in the Stony Field. More specifically, it is looted from Wirt’s body near the bottom left corner of the map. And with respect to the Tome of Town Portal, one can be purchased from Akara in the Rogue Encampment.
Once these two items have been obtained, players should simply insert them into the Horadric Cube in Diablo 2: Resurrected and press “Transmute.” This action will cause a red portal to appear in the Act 1 starting area, and it leads directly to the Secret Cow Level. Fans are now free to pass through that portal at their convenience, though players that are planning to farm the map should be aware of something very important.
That is that killing the Cow King, a special enemy that always appears on the map, will prevent a player from opening another portal to the Secret Cow Level on the same difficulty. Fans should thus be very careful to avoid this foe, or they may have some trouble returning to the map in the future. That said, the Cow Level is not the farming spot that it once was, and Diablo 2: Resurrected fans should thus not be too concerned if they lose their easy access to it.
Diablo 2: Resurrected is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
