Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still a fair bit away, as the game will not be releasing until 2023. Still, that has not stopped fans from theorizing and sharing their ideas for potential features. Some have suggested unique boss fights mechanics for Venom, while others have proposed ideas for open world encounters where Peter and Miles meet up. Unsurprisingly, a lot has also been said about the next game’s suits, too.
While those that are excited for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have shared all kinds of suits they would like to see, such as Arachknight and Zombie Hunter Spider-Man, it would also be nice if a new featured was added to the lineup of outfits: battle damage. While Marvel’s Spider-Man players could wear a battle-damaged version of the classic suit, the sequel should let all of the game’s suits be torn up in real time. A lot of immersion would result from this one detail, with Insomniac taking full advantage of the PS5’s power to make every single suit more intricate.

What Battle Damage Could Do For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2's Suit Lineup
While the Marvel’s Spider-Man games offer plenty of memorable suits for Spidey to wear, players do not have any options when it comes to changing a suit’s appearance. While suit powers can be mixed and matched, the suits themselves keep their default appearance no matter what happens to the friendly neighborhood hero that is wearing it. Battle damage could change that.
While full suit customization in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may be a bit much to ask, battle damage would essentially give players two or three suits for the price of one. For example, seeing the lenses on the Iron Spider suit cracked and broken could make it look even more formidable, showing Peter’s foes that he has already taken and survived a ton of damage. If Insomniac wanted to take things a step further, it could even add an effect on gameplay.
Once again using Peter’s Stark-made suit as an example, a ruined Iron Spider costume could see Spidey unable to use his Iron Spider legs. In a boss battle with a strong foe like Venom, one of these legs could be ripped off, instantly eliminating part of the webslinger’s moveset and making the fight more challenging. The leg could then stay broken until Peter returns to his hideout to repair it. With the Iron Spider legs seemingly being a big ability in the next game, it makes sense that Insomniac would pay them special attention, and this mechanic could be one way of doing that.
Outside of this, simply seeing the futuristic helmet from Miles’ 2020 suit broken would be great, with the young hero’s eye peering through the shattered glass sure to give fans chills. Once players have seen a stage of battle damage, whether it be moderate or heavy, Insomniac could add that version of the suit to the game’s lineup. While there will likely be a lot of cool suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, adding damaged variants of each of them could bring even more depth to the game’s outfit selection.
While there are surely some other ideas for Marvel’s Spider-Man features that would add more from a story perspective, going all in on a small detail like suit damage could be worthwhile. Insomniac’s muscle technology for Spider-Man: Miles Morales proves just how much the developer cares about immersion, so it is likely that the studio has discussed the possibility of a proper battle damage mechanic. While it is unclear if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will let its players damage the game’s costumes, many fans of the webhead would surely appreciate the extra touch.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 for PS5.
