A new indie survival horror game called Wronged Us is currently in development, which takes cues from some of the genre's most notable names.

In the world of survival horror gaming, two names are often held aloft as the most influential in the genre, Resident Evil and Silent Hill. While the former is still going, with Resident Evil 7 recently smashing sales records, the latter has since died down, though there are rumors that a new SH game is in the make. Whatever the status of these franchises, their influences are still working their way through the development world as studios continue to take cues from either or both games. And now, a new game is currently in the make which leans towards these two horror behemoths.

Called Wronged Us, this new game not only takes inspiration from the likes of Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but will also be influenced by Dark Souls. What this could mean for the game in terms of how it plays or its mechanics is anyone's guess, as hardly anything is currently known about the story. However, the developer has posted a very brief, and somewhat eerie clip to YouTube. The teaser lasts less than 20 seconds and simply shows a man approaching a hill, on top of which there is a couple holding hands, both of whom are missing their heads. At the final moment of the clip, one of the headless beings begins to approach the man at the bottom, and then it ends.

There is no mention about when the game will be released, except that it's scheduled for sometime in 2022. There is also no mention about which platforms the game will likely be on, which suggests that development on the project is in the early stages. What is known about Wronged Us so far is that it will be made in Unreal Engine 5, which is probably the industry's most popular game development software and is used to make an assortment of AAA and indie titles.

It's not too unusual for horror games to be influenced by some of the genre's most beloved franchises, given the impact they've had. Post Trauma is another indie game which is being inspired by Silent Hill as well as other classic horror titles. However, Wronged Us taking cues from Dark Souls does add that extra bit of intrugue. It's impossible to say whether it will be inspired by the series' difficulty or combat mechanics, but time will reveal that no doubt.

The gaming world is in something of a golden age of horror. With some of the best horror games being more psychological, while others being more prone to "jump scares," it will be interesting to see where Wronged Us will sit and how it will stack alongside some of the highly praised indie horror games that have been coming out lately.

Wronged Us is currently in development and is due out in 2022.
