Sony's PlayStation Plus free games service has transformed over time. It once offered PS3, PSP, PS Vita, and PS4 games, and then when those older consoles were phased out, Sony exclusively offered free PS4 games. With the launch of its next-generation PlayStation 5 console, Sony shifted the PS Plus focus to include the usual two free PS4 games every month, but also started offering a free PS5 game to subscribers as well.
Reddit user AmjadZohair shared a chart that shows all of the free PS5 PS Plus games that have been released since the console's launch last November (Control: Ultimate Edition is missing from the list, but it was technically a PS4 free game that offered a free PS5 upgrade). The list shows that the free PS5 PS Plus games have included mostly brand new releases, with a couple of exceptions. Maneater was not a new release when it hit the free PS Plus games lineup in January of this year, though Sony offered refunds for PS Plus subscribers that already purchased it.

The other game that wasn't a new PS5 release when it hit PS Plus was Overcooked: All You Can Eat, a free PS Plus game for September 2021. Otherwise the games have been brand new releases or at least new to the PS5, from the first PS5 PS Plus game Bugsnax to the latest free PS5 PS Plus game, Hell Let Loose.

- Bugsnax (November 2020)
- Worms Rumble (December 2020)

It will be interesting to see if the free PS5 PS Plus game pattern resumes for November 2021, or if Sony adds an older game to the lineup instead. Sony likely won't reveal the free PS Plus games for November 2021 until the last Wednesday of the month, October 27, so PS Plus subscribers have to wait some time before they find out for sure. However, we do know that the free PS Plus games for November 2021 will include some extras.
The free PS Plus games for any given month typically consist of one PS5 game and two PS4 games, but November 2021 will be an exception. Not only will PS Plus subscribers be able to look forward to the usual games, but they will also get three free PlayStation VR games as part of the PS Plus November 2021 lineup. Sony has not announced the specific games at the time of this writing, so fans will have to stay tuned for more information on that front.
