The FX on Hulu original series Y: The Last Man has been officially canceled, even before it was able to conclude its first full season. However, the series showrunner is hoping that if the show cannot live on with Hulu that it might be picked up by another streaming service for another few seasons.
Y: The Last Man has had an interesting road to even getting the first season on Hulu. There was a time when the series, based on the popular graphic novel, was slated for regular broadcast television but plans changed several different times before it was able to make its way to the streaming service. The show debuted earlier this fall but wasn't even given a full season to prove itself before the execs at Hulu decided it was time to pull the plug, according to showrunner Eliza Clark.

Clark took to Twitter over the weekend to announce Y: The Last Man would end its run at 10 episodes. As part of the announcement, Clark made it clear that she had never been more dedicated to a project. She then laid out what she felt the story was all about before explaining that she's already hoping that some other network or streaming service might pick the series up. She added that if Y: The Last Man is able to continue its story at another home, that new service will be quite lucky. She continued by saying that she had never worked with a group of people who were as committed as the people who work on YTLM to continue the story.
Y: The Last Man premiered its first three episodes through the FX on Hulu partnership on September 13, 2021, and has been releasing subsequent episodes every Monday. The series is adapted from Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's graphic novel of the same name. All episodes of the series were directed by women, and at this time only two more episodes remain.
The series follows the survivors of a cataclysmic disease or event that somehow manages to kill almost every person and mammal on Earth with a Y chromosome. Most of Y: The Last Man's story focuses on one cisgender man, Yorick Brown, and his male monkey, Ampersand.
Other main characters in both the books and the Hulu series include Yorick's mother, Jennifer Brown, and his sister, Hero. Jennifer, who has risen to the post of President of the United States after the line of succession is decimated by the virus, also dispatches a bodyguard by the name of 355 who helps Yorick. Together, they journey across the country looking for a cause and a cure to whatever happened.
Y: The Last Man is currently available on FX on Hulu.
