Fans have been waiting to hear any new information about the upcoming Fable game ever since it was announced last year, and, for a moment, it seemed like news would be coming sometime today based on some tweets from the official Xbox Game Studios Publishing Twitter accont. Unfortunately, however, Xbox clarified and said that no new Fable news was coming.
Yesterday's initial tweets, which have now since been deleted, said that the company was excited to "kick off something special" today, but that it needed some time to "prepare the chickens." While chickens have been something of an in-joke throughout the entire Fable series, this alone wasn't enough to convince fans that Xbox was preparing a Fable announcement, but the second tweet in the deleted thread made things much clearer by name-dropping the upcoming game. It said that the "something special" from the first tweet would be called "Fable Anniversary" but that the name was already taken.

The Xbox Game Studios Publishing Twitter account quickly clarified on the matter by deleting the original tweets and apologizing for the confusion. It added that the company doesn't currently have anything to show today about the untitled Fable sequel or any other Xbox exclusive titles. The incident has made fans wonder, however, if something might be in the works that was simply announced too soon by someone internally.
There's been essentially no word from Xbox or from Playground Games about Fable, so fans have been hoping for quite some time that new information would be coming soon. As most of the major games industry events of 2021 have passed without any significant update, fans were surprised by the random Sunday afternoon announcement only to be disappointed once more when it turned out to be nothing. Some are hoping that Fable makes an appearance at the 2021 Game Awards, but there hasn't been anything to suggest its inclusion other than the fact that there hasn't been any update on the project for over a year.
Even if it wasn't any information on the unreleased Fable game, fans were thinking that the tweets from Xbox were potentially referring to a remastered collection or otherwise released versions of the older games in the franchise. Despite getting some graphical and performance updates on the Xbox Series X and S, there hasn't been an official remastered version of any of the original Fable trilogy. A release like that could have done well to help tide fans over as they wait for the next title, however, if anything like that is in the works, it hasn't been publically announced.
Fable is in development for PC and Xbox Series X.
