Ghost of Tsushima is the gift that keeps on giving to fans of the samurai game. After wrapping up the initial story of Jin and his trials, Sucker Punch Productions continued on this adventurous path with Legends. Legends included even more to do, including squading up with friends for a multiplayer experience that took the Tsushima journey into the realm of the supernatural. For those that have not dived into what Legends has to offer, the studio has announced that a standalone release is on the horizon, as well as the revelation that a new mode is coming soon.
With the Director's Cut of the game set to release in the next two weeks, Sucker Punch wanted to give even better news for those itching for more samurai goodness. Legends will allow gamers to join in on raid adventures without owning the base game itself or the Director's Cut. The Legends pot is even sweeter with the arrival of a new mode called Rivals, which will be dropping on September 3, and will pit two teams of two against one another in the fight against hordes of enemies. The objective is to defeat all enemies and collect Magatama. Magatama can be used to hurt the other team, which provides a leg up on the competition for which team can perform the best.

It can also be used for curses that can inhibit the other team, like a health drain effect and exploding bodies. When enough Magatama is spent, teams can then unlock the Final Stand waves, the last instance that will determine which team wins.
In addition to the new Rivals mode, Sucker Punch is also releasing the Gear Mastery system, a new expansion of the current progression system in Legends and the rewards players can earn. "Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate Mastery Challenges," says senior game designer Darren Bridges via a new PlayStation Blog post. "This will allow a piece of gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class."
When the Director's Cut arrives on August 20, there will also be a new update that will introduce fresh features based on player feedback. These changes include rebalancing Survival mode to shorten session length, new weekly Survival Nightmare challenge variants, and more cosmetic items to unlock.
The best part? All of this is free for those that already own Ghost of Tsushima. The standalone release of Legends will come in handy for those who are only interested in the multiplayer component. Legends by itself retails for $19.99 on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 systems. The Director's Cut will be available for $40. With only a few weeks until launch, Amazon has decided to take another month to polish New World before release. Announced today on Twitter, the upcoming MMO will now be launching on September 28 instead of its previously planned date of August 31.
New World’s Twitter account provided a statement alongside the announcement of the delay. Stating the change in timeline is due to feedback from players over the course of the beta.
Along the way, you’ve also given us a ton of feedback that we’ll use to make New World even better. We want New World’s launch to be a smooth and fun experience for all players, and that means making some improvements based on what you encountered during Closed Beta. So we’re going to take a few extra weeks to smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game. New World’s new global launch date is September 28, 2021.Also, the studio revealed over one million players logged into the beta and collectively played for over 25 million hours, a number provided by a New World representative. Amazon Games also talks about New World being very popular on Twitch and Steam over the beta.

Delaying the game by a few weeks isn’t enough time to make sweeping overhauls to the game. However, placing the new date so close to the original launch means Amazon Games believes it can address some feedback from the community. It takes a moment in the announcement to acknowledge the bumpy road New World’s development has had: “We know this isn’t the first time we’ve changed our launch date in pursuit of quality, and that it can be disappointing to wait a bit longer. But we want to be sure we deliver you the highest quality game possible at launch. Thank you for your support and feedback. We’re listening.”
